A powerful atmospheric river, intensified by a “bomb cyclone,” is unleashing heavy rain, strong winds, and dangerous surf conditions across Northern California. The North Bay is expected to bear the brunt of the storm, with up to 12 inches of rain possible by Tuesday. Areas south of the Golden Gate will experience rainfall totals ranging from 1 to 6 inches, with the heaviest rain expected on Friday.
Flood Watches are in effect for the North Bay through Saturday morning, as torrential rain threatens to overwhelm streams and flood low-lying areas. Wind gusts between 45-50 mph have prompted a Wind Advisory for coastal and bayshore regions. Additionally, swells up to 22 feet have led to a High Surf Advisory in effect until Friday.
The storm brings several hazards, including flooding, fallen trees, and power outages. Officials are urging residents to exercise caution as the storm intensifies.
