Five California communities ravaged by the 2018 wildfires will receive $40.7 million in federal disaster recovery funds. Governor Gavin Newsom announced the funding, which aims to support job training and workforce development programs, fostering economic and social recovery in these areas.
The grants come from the 2018 Community Development Block Grant—Disaster Recovery Workforce Development program and are designed to train low- to moderate-income residents in essential trades. “Rebuilding after wildfires is about more than replacing homes—it’s about restoring lives and creating opportunities,” Newsom stated, expressing gratitude to federal partners for their assistance.
The funds will benefit Butte, Lake, Los Angeles, Shasta, and Ventura counties, which were severely impacted by the wildfires. The initiatives will focus on training programs in critical sectors like construction, healthcare, and disaster resilience. These efforts aim to ensure that these communities not only recover but also emerge stronger and more prepared for future challenges.
