According to The Sun , Dillard’s, the long-standing department store chain founded over 80 years ago, has announced the closure of its Murfreesboro, Tennessee, location. The closure, confirmed in a letter to Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland, will take place between mid to late January 2025. The store, located in the Stones River Mall (now called Stones River Town Centre), has been a staple in the community since the 1990s and underwent an expansion in 2007.
Although the company did not specify the reasons for the closure, a representative confirmed that it is the only store being shut down at this time. Shoppers in the area have expressed their disappointment and sadness on social media, with many lamenting the loss of the department store, which was known for its quality service and clean environment.
The news comes shortly after Dillard’s posted a challenging quarter-three report, with a 4% decline in sales year-over-year, following a 3% drop in the previous quarter. Despite these setbacks, CEO William T. Dillard II remains optimistic about the upcoming holiday season, citing a focus on margin and expense control. However, the company has experienced reduced net income and sales, which could have contributed to the decision to close the Murfreesboro store.
