SCRATCHED AWAY: Lottery player scoops $10 million after spending just $30 – but saw $4m vanish straight away thanks to instant decision

According to The Sun , A lucky lottery winner in New York turned a $30 investment into a staggering $10 million. Sabina Ospino, a resident of Jackson Heights, Queens, hit the jackpot by playing the New York Lottery’s 200X scratch-off game. She matched her numbers with the winning ones, claiming the top prize. Ospino purchased the winning ticket at Shabaz Deli on 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights, overcoming the odds of just 1 in 3.5 million.

However, Ospino’s decision to take a lump sum payment instead of an annuity meant she didn’t get the full $10 million. After taxes, she walked away with $6,122,400. The federal tax withheld 24% of her winnings, while New York State and City taxes deducted 10.9% and 3.876%, respectively, leaving Ospino with a smaller payout than expected.

In another heartwarming lottery win, an Illinois woman discovered she had won $1 million after purchasing a Lucky Day Lotto ticket for just $1. The player had bought the ticket while grocery shopping at Jewel-Osco in Elmhurst, Illinois, before putting it in her purse and forgetting about it. A few days later, she checked her ticket using the lottery app and was shocked to see that she had won the $1 million jackpot by matching all five winning numbers—2, 3, 24, 25, and 28.

Overcome with emotion, the woman expressed her excitement, saying she now looks forward to annual trips to her favorite place—Ireland. The stunning landscape and opportunity to travel every year are among the things she’s most grateful for. The grocery store where she bought the ticket was just 18 miles from Chicago.

Other lottery winners have also been fortunate, including one person who went to return a carton of orange juice and ended up walking away with a $315 million jackpot. Another anonymous Powerball winner claimed $1 million but narrowly missed out on a massive $409 million prize by just one number.
