According to Vibes.okdiario Not all Washington Quarters are valued the same—factors like the coin’s condition, the year of minting, and the mint where it was produced can all influence its worth. Some coins, especially those with minting errors, can fetch millions. For now, let’s take a closer look at the rare and highly sought-after Washington Quarters from 1932, particularly the 1932-D and 1932-S varieties.
These two 25-cent coins are among the most coveted in the United States. The 1932 Washington Quarter, designed by John Flanagan, was made of 90% silver. A San Francisco-minted example graded at MS66 sold for $45,000 at auction in 2020, according to David Lawrence RC Auction House.
However, the 1932-D Washington Quarter holds the auction record. While the San Francisco quarter fetched a significant sum, the 1932-D example (Regular Strike) sold for an impressive $143,750. This coin, minted in Denver, is considered the rarest of the two, with only about 436,000 minted. Collectors have been hunting for these specimens for more than 60 years.
For context, the mintage of the 1932-S is even lower at 408,000, making it similarly rare, but the 1932-D remains the most highly desired. Despite the number of coins minted, collectors often prioritize the condition over the quantity, adding to the rarity and value of these pieces.

In terms of grading, Professional Coin Grading Services (PCGS) has graded around 100 pieces of the 1932-D Washington Quarter in MS65 condition. These coins can sell for around $12,000 if they’re in similar condition. In comparison, the 1932-S Washington Quarter, which has a slightly higher number of graded coins, can still command a respectable $3,000 in MS65 condition, but it’s far less expensive than its Denver counterpart.
If you happen to own a 1932-D or 1932-S Washington Quarter in great condition, it could be worth a significant sum. Even if your budget is tight, selling one of these rare coins could provide a valuable financial opportunity.
