Singapore Airlines, renowned for its luxurious service, has announced an exciting plan to retrofit seven of its Airbus A350-900 aircraft with four new first-class suites. This initiative is part of a significant S$1.1 billion (approximately US$835 million) investment, which also includes enhancements to business class across 34 long-haul A350 planes.
Among the routes to feature the new first-class experience is the world’s longest flight, a remarkable 19-hour journey between New York’s JFK and Singapore. While specific details about the new first-class product are yet to be revealed, the airline promises an elevated level of comfort and sophistication. “The new First Class and Business Class seat designs will incorporate thoughtful elements that push the boundaries of comfort, luxury, and modernity, allowing our customers to relax or work effortlessly on board,” stated Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phon.
The retrofitted aircraft will include four first-class suites, 70 business-class seats, and 58 premium-economy seats, with no standard economy class available on these planes. Other A350s undergoing retrofitting will feature 42 business-class seats, 24 premium-economy seats, and 192 economy seats. The first-class-equipped planes are expected to be operational by 2026, targeting a select group of affluent travelers. Currently, business-class tickets on the New York to Singapore route exceed $9,000, suggesting a premium price point for the forthcoming first-class service.
