Important SSI Update: December 1 Payments Rescheduled – New Payday Announced
The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program typically issues monthly payments on the first day of each month. However, when that date falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the Social Security Administration (SSA) must adjust the payment schedule. For December 2024, since December 1 falls on a Sunday, SSI payments will be made earlier, on November 29, 2024.
How Much Will SSI Recipients Receive on November 29, 2024?
Eligible SSI recipients will receive the same payment amount as on November 1, 2024. Currently, the average SSI payment is approximately $697, which has seen a slight decrease from the previous month. Here’s a breakdown of average payments based on recipient categories:
- Overall Average: $697
- Recipients Under 18: $813
- Recipients Aged 18-64: $743
- Recipients Aged 65 or Older: $574
It’s important for recipients who have experienced significant life changes—such as marriage or employment—to report these changes, as they may affect the payment amount.

Will the November 29 SSI Payment Include the 2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA)?
The payment scheduled for November 29 will not include the 2025 COLA increase. Recipients will have to wait until December 31, 2024, to see the effects of the COLA adjustment. While SSI recipients will receive this adjustment sooner than those on retirement or disability benefits (who will see their increased payments starting in January 2025), the December payment will not reflect this change.
For those eligible for SSI, it’s advised to apply if they have limited income and few resources, as the program is designed to assist individuals in need.
