A tragic accident in Hughesville, Maryland, claimed the life of a 23-year-old woman and left three men hospitalized after a garbage truck overturned onto her car during a triple collision on Friday night.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Maryland Route 231 when a driver in a Ford Mustang made a wide right turn from a private driveway into the oncoming lane. According to Maryland State Police, the Mustang entered the westbound lane while attempting to turn.
Investigators believe the driver of the Kenworth garbage truck attempted to avoid the Mustang but was unable to do so in time. The collision caused the garbage truck to rotate and overturn onto a Honda Civic traveling in the same direction.
Hope Duker, the driver of the Honda, tragically lost her life in the crash. The garbage truck operator, who hails from Waldorf, Maryland, along with the two men in the Ford Mustang—one from Salisbury, Maryland—were injured in the incident.
All three men were transported to local hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Maryland State Police confirmed that driver error is a contributing factor in the collision, prompting ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
