Man in Prison Halloween Costume Arrested for Real in Hayward DUI Bust

A Halloween costume turned all too real for one man who found himself in handcuffs after being stopped by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The man, dressed in an orange prison-style “Department of Corrections” jumpsuit, was pulled over by CHP Hayward officers. According to a social media post by CHP, officers noticed he was allegedly driving 90 mph, and upon further investigation, placed him under arrest. CHP posted a photo on X showing the man, identified as Jose Burciaga Avendano, with his hands behind his back as an officer secured the handcuffs.

“This isn’t the costume he expected to wear for real,” CHP Hayward commented. “But choices matter.” They also issued a cautionary reminder: “Always plan a sober ride home – don’t let poor decisions haunt you.”
