San Mateo County Deputies Arrest DUI Suspects with Loaded Firearm in Half Moon Bay
San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a driver and passenger early Tuesday morning in Half Moon Bay on multiple offenses, including the recovery of a loaded semi-automatic firearm. This incident marks the second time in four days that a firearm has been seized during a traffic stop in the coastal area, raising concerns about public safety and illegal gun possession.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, a deputy on proactive patrol observed several vehicle code violations around 12:30 a.m. The driver attempted to evade law enforcement but was later located in a parking lot near Amesport Landing. During the stop, evidence of alcohol and cocaine impairment became apparent, and the driver’s agitation increased.
The passenger soon exhibited similar agitation, complicating the arrest as both individuals resisted law enforcement commands. As the investigation progressed, deputies discovered a loaded semi-automatic firearm, a separate loaded magazine, drug paraphernalia, and other incriminating items inside the vehicle.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Matias FuentesSantini of Half Moon Bay, faces charges including possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, being under the influence while in possession of a loaded firearm, and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The passenger, 20-year-old Iris M. Grant from El Granada, was also arrested and charged with being drunk in public and obstruction.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office has reiterated its commitment to public safety and the enforcement of laws regarding illegal firearms. They encourage community members to anonymously report any illegal weapon possession or transportation by contacting the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 1-800-547-2700.
