An 11-year-old reported missing in Iowa was found Monday morning at a gas station in Indiana, approximately 360 miles away, according to police.
Indiana State Police were alerted at 2 a.m. by a detective from the Iowa City Police Department regarding a child abduction that occurred in their city on Sunday. The investigator informed ISP that the suspect was the non-custodial parent of the child and was believed to be heading to the East Coast, likely just passing through Indiana.
Although police had limited descriptive information, troopers began searching the interstates. At 2:39 a.m., a trooper located a grey 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix at a gas station on Lafayette Road off I-65 in Indianapolis. Inside the vehicle were the missing 11-year-old and two adults.
Ronique Pittman, 36, from Goldsboro, North Carolina, was arrested and booked on an Iowa warrant for child abduction by a non-custodial parent, police confirmed.
The 11-year-old was taken to the Indiana State Police post in Indianapolis before being handed over to the Department of Child Services for reunification with their custodial parent.
