A man was tragically struck and killed Wednesday night while crossing a street in East San Jose in what authorities suspect was a hit-and-run incident.
Police received a report of the crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of King Road and Salamoni Court around 8:15 p.m. According to the investigation, a driver operating a 2012 Dodge Caravan was heading southbound on King Road when he struck the pedestrian, who was crossing westbound outside of a designated crosswalk.
The victim was taken to a hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The driver fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after by law enforcement and arrested.
This incident marks the 43rd traffic-related death and the 16th pedestrian fatality in San Jose this year. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
