Cain Velasquez’s Attempted Murder Sentencing Delayed Until 2025
Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will have to wait until at least 2025 for his sentencing in the attempted murder case involving a man accused of molesting his son. A court official at the Santa Clara County Hall of Justice in San Jose, California, announced on Friday that the case is continued until early 2025, although no new date has been confirmed.
Currently out on bail, Velasquez, 42, changed his initial plea from not guilty to no contest in August. He faces 10 charges, including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, stemming from an incident in April 2022. During that incident, Velasquez allegedly chased and shot at a vehicle carrying Harry Goularte, who had been accused of molesting Velasquez’s then-4-year-old son at a daycare. Another passenger in the vehicle sustained a non-life-threatening injury from a bullet fired by Velasquez.
Goularte is scheduled for a hearing on November 13 in advance of his trial on a felony charge of lewd acts with a minor. Additionally, the Velasquez family has a civil lawsuit pending against Goularte, his family, and the businesses associated with them, including the daycare where the alleged abuse occurred.
